No-Cost Self-Care

Posted on: January 14th, 2020 by Allie Voss No Comments

We are a few weeks into 2020, and if you’re the type that likes to make goals and resolutions, self-care should be on the top of your list. If you’ve avoided that idea because of budget, we want to remind you that practicing self-care can be completely free! Although it would be nice to spend a full day at the spa, that isn’t always possible. Below is a list of 5 free ways to practice self-care in 2020.

  1. Turn off your phone. Maybe it’s for two hours of your morning as you’re enjoying coffee and easing into the day, or perhaps it’s for an entire 24 hours over the weekend. Our phones can often leave us feeling overwhelmed, and can set us into a comparison spiral. Mute the distractions, and enjoy time without the buzz!
  2. Practice gratitude. Grab a piece of paper or an old journal, and each day write down 5 things you are thankful for before you go to sleep. After a few days of doing this, you will be shocked by how spending time to reflect can put you in a great mood.
  3. Make sleep a priority. When life gets busy, the first thing that gets put on the back burner is sleep. Although we all know the importance of sleep, we simply aren’t getting enough of it. Combine this with shutting off your phone and get to bed sooner. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed, which is the exact purpose of self-care!
  4. Sit down and read a book. If you struggle to find time to read, start small with 10 minutes a day and go up from there. Give your eyes a break from the blue light of screens. Reading a book before bed can also help you sleep better!
  5. Enjoy time with friends and family. Invite a friend over and enjoy quality time and the presence of others. Although we have the opportunity to be connected to so many people on our phones and social media, we hardly take the time to sit down and catch up in person. Give this a try and we promise you’ll feel the difference.

Let us know your favorite ways to practice self-care for little to no cost. We would love to learn from all of you.
