Drink More Water: Your Body Will Thank You!

We’ve all heard that you’re supposed to have 8 glasses of water a day, but is that really the correct amount for everyone? Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help keep you hydrated, increase your energy levels, improve your mood, enhance your digestion, and increase your athletic performance. If you struggle to drink enough water but know that it is important, we came up with a list of 5 ways to get those ounces up!

  1. Understand how much water your body needs to feel your best: A new recommendation tells us to drink half of your body weight in ounces each day. For easy math, if you weigh 150 pounds you should be drinking 75 ounces of water per day. The numbers are important because once you know how many ounces your body needs, you’ll know just how many times you should be refilling your water bottle.
  2. Set a daily goal: Once you have determined how much water you should be drinking, work your way there. If you’re drinking roughly 40 ounces a day, try 50 ounces for a few days, and then increase to 60 ounces, and so on. Don’t force yourself to get to that magical number right away. Like many things in life, change takes time.
  3. Keep a reusable water bottle with you: this is a vital step to help increase your daily water intake. Treat yourself to your new favorite water bottle at the store, and bring it with you everywhere. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to drink water when it’s always available!
  4. Drink one glass of water before each meal: If you’re having a hard time drinking water consistently throughout the day, a very helpful trick is to try drinking one big glass of water before you begin eating each meal. Doing this will eventually become a habit, and it may even help you feel more full faster when you’re eating!
  5. Flavor your water: Are you bored of your plain water? Would you drink more, but it’s just too bland for you? By adding lemon or berries to your water each morning, it’ll make drinking water more enjoyable and very tasty! By adding lemon to your water you’re also aiding your body in detoxification, and who doesn’t want that? It’s also a great way to change things up and freshen up your normal routine.
