After a long workday, it can be really tempting to spend the evening in front of a TV, with your favorite snack, and maybe your favorite beverage. A small amount of TV or time on your phone is fine, but the blue light that these devices give off affects your ability to fall asleep and the depth of your sleep. Just like how a morning routine is beneficial, we wanted to share why having a set nighttime routine can eliminate stress and help you sleep your best. We came up with a few suggestions on what you can do before bedtime , that doesn’t involve TV or your phone, and that will set you up for a great night of sleep.

1. Read a book, or even a magazine. Giving your eyes a break from the harsh blue light can help you calm down and reading may even make you feel more tired, which is ultimately the goal!

2. Try meditating.The benefits of meditation are endless. By giving your body a chance to sit (or lay) and to focus on your breathing and nothing else – you’ll be shocked at how calming it is. Your brain will want to wander and think of tasks that need to be done, but give yourself that time to just be. It may be your new favorite activity! There are plenty of online resources or mobile apps to help.

3. Take a warm bubble bath. There’s just something satisfying about lighting a few candles, dropping a bath bomb in the tub, and taking a relaxing soak. If you like to use essential oils, this is also a good chance to diffuse one of those – particularly lavender to enhance your calm and promote relaxation.

4. Stretch it out! If you are working out every day and spend most of your time sitting at a desk, your body needs to stretch. Taking 5-10 minutes before bed to stretch those tight areas and breathing through stretches can be very relaxing. you’ll be loose and calm for a great night’s sleep and less sore the next day!

5. Enjoy a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea. Sitting in your cozy bed reading a book and sipping warm tea… it sounds really pleasant, doesn’t it? You can even find varieties of tea such as “Sleepy Time Tea” that help your body relax and calm down before bed.

By giving yourself 30 minutes to an hour before bed to wind down, we can guarantee you will fall asleep faster and sleep better. Clear your mind of all the distractions, and head into the morning with a less cluttered mind. If you implement any of these into your nighttime routine please let us know!
